Blooming Sakura in North Kyūshū, 2016: Prologue

In April 2016, I spent full 15-day journey in North Kyūshū. The preparation took a year because it was my first time in rural area of Japan and my acccompany was my aunt who has never been to Japan. As the leader, I had to make sure that all plans were accurate as much as possible for smooth journey.

The purpose of the journey was not only to experience cities, nature, life and culture but also to follows the history of Christianity and Shimabara Rebellion in Kyūshū region. When I was young, I played a videogame that one of characters was Amakusa Shirō Toksada (天草四郎時貞) who portrayed the real person in the history. I made my own research about the rebellion and hoped to visit the relevant sites someday. Twenty years later, with the advantages of internet and Google Map, I was ready to make my dream came true.

I travelled to 12 cities/towns in 4 prefectures.

- Hakata and Dazaifu in Fukuoka Prefecture
- Hirado, Sasebo, Nagasaki, Shimabara, Unzen, and Minami-Shimabara in Nagasaki Prefecture
- Amakusa, Kami-amakusa, and Kumamoto in Kumamoto Prefecture
- Yufuin in Ōita Prefectue

During 15 days, I stayed overnights at 11 different lodges and used various modes of transportation: trains, Shinkansen trains, intercity buses, local buses, trams, ferries, and rental cars. There were also many unexpected occurrences but the journey ended safely and expressively.

I am sorry that my writing is quite sort of travel memo so it may lack of visiting information. I also apologized for my English.
